Space Shuttle
A generic reusable orbiter (no flags or lettering), 37 m long with a 24 m double-delta wing, black heat-shield belly, three main engines, two manoeuvring pods, payload bay doors that open (rotate parts bay_door_L and bay_door_R) and an optional robotic arm; landing gear can be down or up. Engine bells and the cockpit glow at night; it glides 12 m up.

Use it
Code for the specimen as it is set up above; it follows your knobs.
import { createAsset } from 'https://gaitkit.com/cdn/space-shuttle.mjs';
const spaceShuttle = createAsset();
scene.add(spaceShuttle); // rests on y = 0, front faces +Z
let dist = 0;
renderer.setAnimationLoop(() => {
dist += speed * clock.getDelta();
spaceShuttle.position.set(0, groundY + spaceShuttle.userData.altitude, dist);
spaceShuttle.userData.tick(dist); // wings beat with the distance
renderer.render(scene, camera);
});import { useMemo, useRef } from 'react';
import { useFrame } from '@react-three/fiber';
import { createAsset } from 'https://gaitkit.com/cdn/space-shuttle.mjs';
export function SpaceShuttle({ speed = 1 }) {
const model = useMemo(() => createAsset(), []);
const dist = useRef(0);
useFrame((_, dt) => {
dist.current += speed * dt;
model.position.set(0, groundY + model.userData.altitude, dist.current);
model.userData.tick(dist.current); // wings beat with the distance
});

| Knob | Type | Values | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
doors | range | 0 to 1, step 0.05 | 0 | How far the payload bay doors are open: 0 shut, 1 swung fully open showing the white radiator panels and the bay. Same as rotating bay_door_L and bay_door_R. |
arm | toggle | on / off | true | A jointed robotic arm along the left sill of the bay, folded; visible when the doors are open. |
gear | toggle | on / off | true | Gear down for landing (twin-wheel nose and main legs). Off = gear up for orbit; it then rests on its belly. |
finish | choice | classic weathered midnight | classic | classic (white upper body, black heat tiles underneath), weathered (scorched and patchy tiles after many flights) or midnight (a dark upper body with a pale belly, a fictional later model). |
Presets: payload deploy {"doors":1,"arm":true,"gear":false} · veteran landing {"finish":"weathered","gear":true} · midnight orbiter {"finish":"midnight","doors":0.6}
